Berthoud is a small town seated in north central Colorado and surrounded largely by farmland. In many parts of town, trees overarch the city streets. This feature combined with our history being rooted in agriculture give rise to our nickname, "The Garden Spot of Colorado."
Larimer County was created in 1861 as one of 17 original counties in the Colorado Territory. Unlike much of Colorado, which was largely founded on mining, the settlement of Larimer County was based almost entirely on agriculture, an industry that few thought possible in the region during the initial days of the Colorado Gold Rush.

Each year in early June we celebrate "Berthoud Day," where families gather to engage in friendly competitions, try delicious foods and enjoy music in a picnic-like atmosphere. There is a parade kicking off the day, which focuses on
Berthoud's history and heritage.
Recreation opportunities abound near Berthoud. To the west, rock climbing, fishing, boating, hiking and camping are popular near Carter Lake and Pinewood and Flatiron Reservoirs.

Horsetooth Reservoir and Boyd Lake State Park are just north of town. There's also an archery range at the Lon Hagler recreation area.
